Subcontractor to Auckland University of Technology (AUT) for The Pacific Community (SPC) Noumea, New Caledonia’s online micro-qualification: Enhance Adaptation and Resilience using Nature-based Solutions (NbS)
The project entailed developing teaching materials and delivering a pilot course for the recently established online micro-qualification: Enhance Adaptation and Resilience using Nature-based Solutions (NbS), which addresses Pacific climate challenges through NbS.
This 14-lecture course was designed to empower practitioners and individuals without formal training in NbS, equipping them to define, identify, prioritise, and plan NbS options for climate change adaptation. Central to the course design were Traditional Environmental Knowledge (TEK) and principles of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), to ensure participants could create and implement culturally appropriate NbS work plans.
This micro-qualification is a crucial step toward building capacity and resilience and promoting the effective application of NbS across various levels of governance, national sectors, and associated career development roles. Additionally, the course materials support regional universities and accredited training providers in the Pacific Island Countries and Territories and deliver relevant and impactful content for Pacific peoples.
