REDD+ Project:
The Chyulu Hills

The Chyulu Hills REDD+ Project (CHRP) is a multi-partner initiative designed to promote climate change mitigation and adaptation, restore biodiversity and create alternative livelihoods under the UN scheme of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+).  The project area is located in the Tsavo-Amboseli ecosystem, south-eastern Kenya and stretches over an area of 410,533.84 ha.

The project is centred around the geographic feature of the volcanic Chyulu Hills mountain range, from which the project derives its name. The project is ongoing and presents a broad ecosystem approach, including REDD+, to provide long-term sustainable financing and management to maintain the ecological integrity of this iconic African landscape. The project helps to protect a very high value wildlife and biodiversity area while supporting the development needs of indigenous and other local communities.
